First of all, let me admit my latest addiction that I have succumbed to. For some deeply rooted subconscious reasons probably related to potty training there are things I have a problem spending money on. It doesn't make sense. I can spend $4 on a piece of cake at the hospital cafe, $170 for a splendid meal in a good restaurant, and whatever my budget allows in an art store. However, I find it very difficult to spend any amount of money on paper plates, bottled water or gossip magazines, even if I find those things useful, tasteful and fun. The magazine thing is funny because I subscribe to no less than 5 magazines at any given time. I love magazines. However, I've always considered Star, People, and the likes, a bit of a guilty indulgence that I could never justify. I've traded for them, borrowed them from dentists offices and scooped up back issues from friends. Not too long ago, I signed up for a rewards card from Best Buy. You get 6 weeks of a subscription to a magazine and since it was free, I of course, chose People, fully intending to cancel before the automatic renewal would be charged. During that time, I have come to look forward to Mondays when my magazine would arrive. While this 40 year old mother of three sometimes has a hard time understanding the younger celebrity generation, it has certainly made for interesting reading. Like watching The Soup on E!, reading People allows me to understand pop culture references that would otherwise fly right over my head.
The previous paragraph was an incredibly long introduction to the fact that three weeks ago I didn't know who Amy Winehouse was. But this week, after tossing and turning in her ponytail holder all night, Camille awoke to a funky hairstyle that cracked me up because it looked a little reminiscent of Amy's big hair. So though the tatoos and scars are thankfully missing, Camille was able to give me an Amy look that made us all laugh.
By the way, I ended up extending my subscription to People and buying a case of Dasani. The paper plates are still on hold. If you will, leave a comment on what you find difficult to spend money on.
